Teltonika-RUT9XX Modem won’t send SMS fix

Teltonika Modems have the tendency to stop working (partially) without a clear error or a log message indicating the probable cause.

One of the RUT955 Modems we use, stopped sending SMS message, there were 2 hints in the log’s which helped us debug and resolve the issue.

SMS via API: According to the response everything is ok, but no messages are received (or sent..)

SMS via Webinterface “SMS limit was reached, or would be passed by sending multipart message. Cannot send message”

-There is no SMS limit set in the device

Eventlog : “date/time local1.crit EventlogD[2733]: sqlite3 query error: database or disk is full”

Fix

Enter the CLI via SSH

  • Username: root
  • Password: “yourwebadminpassword”

# /etc/init.d/eventslog stop
# rm /log/log.db
# rm /log/log.db-journal
# /etc/init.d/eventslog start

You should be able to send SMS messages if that was your issue.

This fix also resolves other problems on the Teltonika RUT modem which stop working out of the blue.

nb.

Since the mounted storage was not actually full it seems the sqlite database was corrupt or the flash memory which is used for the storage of the log.db file is corrupt/damaged.

If this issue reoccurs on this specific device I’ll perform some additional checks to validate the flash storage and the integrity of the log.db file.

A firmware update does not resolve this issue.
